In this article , we delved deep in the world of face oils so you don’t have to. Discover why face oils do have a place in your skincare routine, how to use them, and what oils to use for your skin type.

What are face oils and what are their benefits?

Face oils are a skin care solution tailored to work with your skin’s natural oils to keep your skin balanced.  Indeed, as our skin is made of lipids and oil, face oils act as a sealant to keep skin hydrated, avoid dryness and help heal damaged protective barriers. Contrary to popular belief,  face oils don’t moisturize the skin but help seal the moisture or moisturizing agents in your skin.

Different face oils have different benefits but their goal is mainly to serve as an extra barrier of protection for your skin.

What about essential oils and cleansing oils?

Vegetal face oils are not to be confused with essential oils. While essential oils are a bit controversial as they can cause irritations or reactions on sensitive skin, they are not always used in face oils. Though they can be due to their aromatherapeutic power like tea tree, lavender or peppermint oil.

Cleansing oils are also different to the two types of oils mentioned above. Indeed, cleansing oils are an alternative to a daily cleanser. They can be used as the first step when double cleansing as a make-up remover or for a more gentle face cleanse.

How to use them ?

Face oils can be used morning or night, as the last step of your skincare routine for better product penetration efficiently into the skin. You can also add a few drops of your favorite face oil to your moisturizer and massage it in your face.
